You have just entered the natural Gaztelu Hill area. Descend into the depths of the earth and discover the caves of Isturitz and Oxocelhaya through a maze of 600 metres of tunnels.
Here more than anywhere else you are going to uncover the mysteries of one of Europe's richest archaeological sites.

80 000 years of History before your very eyes !
Leap back into the History of mankind.

Neanderthal man was the first lodger here, which was a point of convergence for the Franco-Cantabrian world at the feet of the Pyrenees.
He was then succeeded by Cro-Magnon, our ancestor, a rupestrian artist, handyman and inventor of tools which were to change the world. In all more than 70 000 objects, paintings and engravings uncovered on the site are witness to the importance of this place.

First of all explore the cave of Isturitz, an incredible archaeological site, discovered in 1895, and marvel at the gigantic proportions, warm colours and the imposing presence of a stalacto-stalagmite which has resisted erosion.

Then continue your path through the tunnels and marvel in the cave of Oxocelhaya, a natural masterpiece, a cathedral of rock carved by water over thousands of years.

Then discover even deeper again...no you don't have to go any deeper ! Here in the cave of Erberua, runs the Arberoue, a formerly ultra-powerful river which explains the geological enigma of these three superposed cavities. Follow your steps back up, contemplate and take the time to admire this place full of magic, mystery and 80 000 years of Mankind's History.

End your visit in the archaeological museum, discover ethnic and mineral objects in the Nature and Prehistory Shop, savour and taste regional products and dishes in the ''Bodega'' or on the Oxocelhaya Farm.

And finally escape onto the surrounding marked trails, lose yourself and for a moment become the first inhabitant of Gaztelu Hill.
